Dame Matron Dr Ramziah Ahmad
After nearly five decades of stellar performance as practitioner and advocate of the nursing profession, winning numerous accolades locally and around the world, culminating to the honorific title of Dame, Dr Hjh Ramziah Hj Ahmad has unflinchingly proven her mettle in elevating the status of her chosen fields. Dame Ramziah obtained both her Advanced Nursing Administration and Bachelor in Nursing Sciences (Hon.) from University Malaya. Amongst her many role in the Health Ministry, she was a trainer, national researcher and Ward Management Consultant. Her excellent work was well appreciated that The Ministry of Health Malaysia awarded her Best Nurse Researcher, and the Excellent Service Award three times. She was the President of the Malaysian Nursing Association (MNA) from 2006 to 2014. Some of the many milestones during her tenure saw marked improvements in the recruitment of graduate nurses in the country and she put the association’s financial status in good stead through diversification of its assets. Mindful of the needs of some overseas affiliates in the Pacific region, she had a charity drive to donate money for their healthcare facilities. Her selfless dedication and relentless efforts eventually led to her appointment as the President of the Commonwealth Nurses and Midwives Federation (2014-2018). In the course of her nursing career, her engagements with patients reveal that a medical condition often transcends causes beyond the physical. It is not uncommon, that a breakdown in one’s health is really due to a combination of various issues such as emotional, psychological, personal neglect, financial, the daily diet, the surrounding environment and also the extent of one’s spiritual connection. And despite the changes in modern lifestyle, abusive actions and gender inequality still exist in many parts of the world. Such awareness motivates her to strive for the protection and betterment of womankind around the region also. Dame Ramziah has had many of her written articles published . She is also actively involved in the international lecture circuits delivering talks about healthcare and nursing in particular, while also advocating women’s rights to a large audience.
